How to Add Whimsy to Your Everyday Life!

Since finishing my Master's in English, I have struggled to find any job that will give me the opportunity to work with them. These jobs want someone with experience, but are not willing to give us the experience they are looking for and that we need. For one of my applications, I was required to post on BuzzFeed's community site. I had so much fun posting it, but I can only hope that it gets me somewhere with the application. If you are interested in seeing it published on BuzzFeed, click the link below; if not, I have attached the article below.

To be whimsical is to see the fun, playful, and not-so-serious side of everyday things. The older we get, the more serious we become. Lately, on TikTok, all I have seen are people trying to romanticize their everyday lives. I felt inspired and shocked that I wasn't already channelling my inner free spirit throughout my day. As a girl forever obsessed with Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz, I have always felt that there are magical things at work all around me, even if I can't see them. Despite growing up, I have not let myself forget my inner child, and you shouldn't either. Here are ways to embrace whimsy in your life:

1. Buy Yourself Fresh Flowers

Fresh flowers are not only gorgeous, but they also add a refreshing feeling to any space. Whenever I buy fresh flowers, I feel like I have my life together at least a little bit. It is a great way to add color and life to your home while also romanticizing the space you live in.

2. Collect Things You Love

The older I get, the more I see people afraid to show you their interests. I personally love miniature items and collect bottles and keys. I am also a big Barbie fan and admire Audrey Hepburn. I have my collection of interests on display, and I always feel happy when I get to see the things that make me feel like me!

3. Use Unique Items

I am obsessed with the cups that look like flowers and plates that are anything besides plain white. If you start your day with a morning coffee, why not start it with a little whimsy by drinking out of a fun cup, too?

4. Get in Touch with Nature

I am not the biggest outdoorsy gal, but I do enjoy sunbathing in the springtime. I even miss the feeling of grass between my toes, allowing me to feel like a kid again. The smell of fresh air can always calm someone down and possibly bring you a little peace.

5. Create a Signature Look

Audrey Hepburn is easily identifiable by her bold brows and brunette hair. Why not create a unique look for yourself? Maybe you have always wanted to wear hair bows, so you might as well start now. I personally would love to get more vintage-inspired clothes because I love old Hollywood. There is no reason not to create a unique look for yourself that makes you happy.

6. Add Colorful Things to Your Life

Since Spring is around the corner, there is no better time to add pastels to your aesthetic. In your car, you can add decals, hanging accessories, or seat covers that make driving more fun. You can add color to your stationery by buying colorful pens or sticky notes. I used to be someone who only wore black and white, but I love finding colors that I enjoy and that bring my spirits up.

7. Use More Candles

Instead of using the dreaded overhead lights, get some candles and candle warmers. I am someone who loves to be dramatic, and sometimes at night, instead of using my phone light or overhead light, I will use a candle to light my way, making me feel like I am a princess quietly sneaking around her castle at night with only a candle to light my path.

8. Find a New Hobby

Besides scrolling on TikTok, you should find a new hobby that involves using your hands for something outside of scrolling. The biggest trend I have seen is bedazzling your skincare. Amazon sells assortments of rhinestones that you can add to your skincare or makeup products to add some sparkle and give you something productive to do. Some other hobbies you can get into are coloring, building miniature sets, or embroidery.

9. Manifest

To get in touch with your more whimsical, witchy side, start manifesting things you want in life. Goals begin with intention. The universe is a very powerful energy. If you start believing in yourself and your goals, the universe will find a way to help you move in that direction. I like to write out a page of goals or dreams that I repeat when I feel discouraged. This adds more belief in myself and puts my goals into the universe.

10. Play Cozy Games

If you are not a hobby person, maybe you will enjoy playing cozy games on your phone, Switch, or iPad. I personally love to play Disney Dreamlight Valley because it is easy to follow, there are always new things to do, and there is no stress in the game. I am always excited when I get a chance to play and unwind. Some other cozy games are Animal Crossing, Tiny Bookshop, and Unpacking.

No matter what you do to add a little more whimsy to your life, never forget to appreciate the little things in life. Romanticize every day, be grateful for the good and bad days, grow from your experiences, and most importantly, be yourself.
